If you want to have your Asterisk PBX answer non-numeric incoming SIP calls of the form sales@yourdomain.com it may not be sufficient to enter an incoming route with the name sales, you should also inspect your extensions.conf. If it reads:

exten => _X.,1,Goto(from-outside-redir,${EXTEN},1)

change it to:

exten => _.,1,Goto(from-outside-redir,${EXTEN},1)

otherwise only sip addresses starting with a numeric digit will be accepted. This is especially imoortant if you receive incoming calls from a SIP gateway such as sipgate.de, because these incoming calls are directed to sipgate@yourdomain.com and would be discarded otherwise.
