Title: UnicodeDecodeError in Zenoss 2.0.2
Post by: admin on Saturday, 07.07.2007 15:18
Unfortunately, Zenoss 2.0 WMI data collection works only with English language windows boxes. When managing non-english boxes, you will most likely get the following error message when trying to view the discovered Windows services:

UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc2 in position 28: ordinal not in range(128)

Since this bug is planned not to be fixed before Zenoss 2.1, we will have to live with this situation until 2008. :-(

As a workaround, you can use the Win Service monitoring, if you know the name of the service, and if it does not contain umlauts or non-ascii characters. Just put the service name into the filter field in the Win Services section before unchecking the "Monitored"-Checkbox and watch the (filtered) services to be listed correctly. :-)
